BMW DME / ECU Cloning & Programming Services
Velectronix provides professional mail-in BMW DME and ECU cloning services for supported Siemens, Continental, and Bosch engine control modules. We transfer vehicle-specific information from your original BMW engine computer into a compatible replacement module that you supply.
Our services cover selected BMW engine computers used across the 1 Series, 3 Series, 5 Series, 6 Series, 7 Series, X Series, Z4, and other supported models. DME cloning can provide an alternative to purchasing and programming a brand-new engine computer when the original module requires replacement.

Common BMW DME / ECU Problems
BMW engine computers may require replacement because of internal electronic failure, electrical damage, moisture intrusion, or other hardware-related problems.
- Failed BMW DME requiring replacement
- Engine computer communication faults or intermittent operation
- Water-damaged or electrically damaged engine computers
- Used replacement DME containing another vehicle's immobilizer information
- Replacement ECU requiring original VIN, coding, and security data
- Original DME with recoverable data but damaged electronics
Supported BMW DME / ECU Families
BMW uses several generations of engine control modules. Velectronix offers cloning services for selected DME families, with compatibility depending on the hardware, software, part number, and condition of the original unit.
Siemens MS42 / MS43 / MS45
Earlier BMW engine computers used in selected M52TU, M54, and related gasoline engine applications. Cloning availability and donor requirements depend on the specific DME version.
Siemens MSV70 / MSV80 / MSV80.1
Engine computers used in selected BMW naturally aspirated six-cylinder applications, including vehicles equipped with N52 and related engines.
Siemens MSD80 / MSD81 / MSD81.2
Engine computers used in selected BMW N54 twin-turbocharged applications. Cloning transfers the required vehicle-specific data to a compatible replacement DME.
Siemens MSD85 / MSD85.1 / MSD87
Engine computers found in selected BMW V8 applications, including N63 and S63 engine families. Compatibility depends on the specific DME hardware and part number.
Bosch ME9.2 / ME9.2.2
Engine control modules used in selected BMW V8 applications, including N62 and related engine configurations. Donor compatibility must be confirmed before ordering.
Bosch MEVD17 / MED17
Later BMW engine computer families used in selected turbocharged gasoline applications. Supported versions vary by hardware and software generation.
BMW MSV / MSD Additional Variants
Other supported Siemens and Continental engine computers, including selected MSV81, MSD85.4, and related DME versions.
Additional BMW DME Types
Other BMW engine computers may be supported. If your DME is not listed, contact us with the BMW or manufacturer part number printed on the module.
How BMW DME Cloning Works
Identify your BMW DME. Locate the BMW or manufacturer part number on your original engine computer.
Obtain a compatible replacement. Use a donor DME that meets the requirements specified in the individual cloning service.
Ship both engine computers. Send your original BMW DME and compatible replacement module to Velectronix.
Data transfer. We read the required information from your original DME and program it into the compatible replacement.
Return shipping. Your modules are shipped back after the programming service is completed.
Standard processing is typically 1–2 business days after we receive the required modules. More complex data recovery work may require additional time.
BMW DME Cloning vs. EWS Delete
BMW DME Cloning
Transfers the original engine computer's vehicle-specific information to a compatible replacement DME. The goal is to preserve the existing immobilizer authorization, VIN, and coding where applicable.
BMW EWS Delete / Immobilizer Off
Modifies supported DME software to disable immobilizer authorization. This is a separate service and is not available for every BMW engine computer. Some applications may require additional vehicle-side changes.
For example, we offer BMW MSD80 / MSD81 DME Cloning and a separate BMW MSD80 / MSD81 EWS Delete Service . The correct option depends on your DME type and the reason for replacement.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need to send both BMW DMEs?
Yes. Standard cloning services require your original engine computer and a compatible replacement DME. Velectronix does not supply donor modules.
Does the replacement BMW DME need the same part number?
Many BMW DME cloning services require an exact part-number match. Some applications permit other compatible hardware versions. Always check the individual service requirements before purchasing a replacement module.
Can you clone a BMW DME that does not communicate?
Standard cloning generally requires the original DME to communicate and its data to be readable. Depending on the ECU family and extent of damage, other recovery options may be available. Contact us before ordering if your original DME does not communicate.
Will I need to program the replacement DME after cloning?
A successfully cloned, compatible DME is generally intended for installation without additional immobilizer programming. Requirements vary by DME and vehicle, and cloning does not correct unrelated faults.
Can I use a used BMW DME?
Yes. A compatible used engine computer can often serve as the replacement. Confirm the DME family and part-number requirements before purchasing a donor.
How long does BMW DME cloning take?
Most standard cloning services are completed within 1–2 business days after the required modules arrive, excluding shipping time.
