BMW ME9.2 EK928_4 / EK928_5 / EK928_7 DME Clone & No Communication Recovery Service
BMW ME9.2 EK928_4 / EK928_5 / EK928_7 DME Clone & No Communication Recovery Service
This is a mail-in DME cloning and data recovery service for select Bosch ME9.2 EK928_4, EK928_5, and EK928_7 engine computers used in BMW N62 and N62N V8 vehicles, including the 545i, 550i, 645Ci, 650i, 745i, 750i, and X5.
We transfer the necessary vehicle-specific data from your original DME into a same-part-number replacement DME that you provide.
This service also covers original DMEs that are water-damaged, electrically damaged, or no longer communicate, where additional recovery work may be required to retrieve the original data before it can be transferred.
YOU MUST SEND BOTH THE ORIGINAL AND REPLACEMENT DME.
THE REPLACEMENT DME MUST HAVE THE SAME PART NUMBER AS THE ORIGINAL.
A REPLACEMENT DME IS NOT INCLUDED WITH THIS SERVICE.
WHAT THIS SERVICE DOES
We transfer the necessary vehicle-specific data from your original Bosch ME9.2 DME into your replacement DME.
If your original DME is still readable, the data is transferred directly to the replacement.
If your original DME is water-damaged, corroded, electrically damaged, or no longer communicates through normal diagnostic or programming methods, we will attempt to recover the necessary data directly from the damaged module.
When the required data can be successfully recovered and transferred, the replacement DME is prepared for installation back into the same vehicle.
Recovery from a severely damaged original DME cannot be guaranteed.
SUPPORTED ME9.2 HARDWARE
This service is specifically intended for select later Bosch ME9.2 hardware families commonly identified as:
- ME9.2 EK928_4
- ME9.2 EK928_5
- ME9.2 EK928_7
These are later ME9.2 DME versions used in select BMW N62 and N62N applications.
The EK928 hardware designation may not be visible on the external DME label. Customers should use the vehicle and BMW part number selections provided on this listing to determine whether their DME is covered.
This service is not intended for the earlier EK928 or EK928_2 DME versions.
COMPATIBLE VEHICLES
This service covers select Bosch ME9.2 EK928_4, EK928_5, and EK928_7 DMEs used with BMW N62 / N62N V8 engines, including:
- BMW 5 Series E60 / E61 — 545i, 550i
- BMW 6 Series E63 / E64 — 645Ci, 650i

- BMW X5 E70 — 4.8i, xDrive48i
Applications vary by model year and production date.
Please select your vehicle from the dropdown menu before ordering.
REPLACEMENT DME REQUIREMENTS
You must provide a replacement DME with this service.
The replacement DME must have the same part number as your original DME.
Do not send a replacement with a different part number, even if it is listed for the same year, model, or engine.
If you have not purchased a replacement DME yet, use the part number printed on your original module to locate a matching replacement.
We do not supply replacement DMEs.
NO COMMUNICATION / WATER-DAMAGED DME
BMW ME9.2 DMEs can suffer from water intrusion, corrosion, electrical failure, and other internal damage that may result in loss of communication with the vehicle.
A DME that no longer communicates does not necessarily mean the original vehicle data is lost.
If your original DME cannot be read normally, we will attempt to recover the necessary vehicle-specific data directly from the damaged module.
If recovery is successful, the recovered data is transferred into your same-part-number replacement DME.
No-communication recovery may require opening, disassembly, component removal, or other invasive work on the failed original DME. The original module may not be returned in its original assembled condition after a recovery attempt.
Recovery depends on the condition and extent of damage to the original DME and cannot be guaranteed.
WHAT WE NEED FROM YOU
Please provide:
- 17-digit VIN
- Original DME
- Replacement DME with the same part number as the original
Clearly mark which module is the ORIGINAL and which is the REPLACEMENT.
Both modules are required for this service.
IMPORTANT — ORIGINAL DME REQUIRED
Your original DME contains the vehicle-specific data required for this service.
We cannot perform this cloning service without the original DME.
If the original DME is damaged or no longer communicates, we can attempt to recover the required data directly from the module.
The success of this recovery depends on the condition of the original DME.
DO NOT ORDER THIS SERVICE IF
- You do not have the original DME
- You do not have a replacement DME
- Your replacement DME has a different part number than the original
- Your DME is an earlier EK928 or EK928_2 version
- You are looking for a blank or virgin replacement DME
- You are requesting immobilizer removal
This service is specifically for recovering and transferring the original vehicle's DME data into a same-part-number, customer-supplied replacement DME.
MAIL-IN SERVICE
This is a mail-in programming service. No replacement DME is included.
After purchasing, ship both your original and replacement DME using the shipping instructions provided with your order.
Once the service is completed, your modules will be returned to you.
For damaged or no-communication original DMEs, additional processing time may be required depending on the condition of the original module.

General FAQ
See All
What is immo off or immobilizer delete, and will it work for my VW or Audi?
Immobilizer delete (immo off) bypasses the immobilizer in the engine control unit (ECU) of VW and Audi vehicles. It’s used when the vehicle starts but immediately shuts down due to a fault in the immobilizer system, often with fault codes P1570 or P0513. Immo off services will not work if the vehicle does not start at all; it must start and then be shut down due to the immobilizer.
What is module cloning, and do part numbers need to match?
Module cloning involves copying all the data from one module to another, allowing the replacement to function just like the original. While it's generally recommended to match part numbers for compatibility, the necessity can vary by module. Some require exact matches, while others are more flexible and allow cloning between different part numbers. Each product listing on our website specifies the part number requirements. If you're unsure, feel free to reach out for guidance.
Do you have to open the module cases?
We only open module cases when absolutely necessary. For services that don’t require opening, we won’t open the module. However, depending on how badly damaged your original ECU is, sometimes opening the module is the only way to retrieve data. Additionally, some services don’t have a plug-in method at all and require direct access to the board, including soldering or chip replacement. The need to open modules is not specific to us but is sometimes essential depending on the condition of the ECU.
What are the shipping procedures and turn around times?
After purchasing, you will receive an email with shipping instructions. You are responsible for shipping your modules to us, and we will cover the return shipping. You can use any shipping service that is convenient for you. We typically use UPS Ground (3-5 days) for return shipping, but in some cases, we may use USPS or FedEx. Once we receive your package (shipping times depend on how quickly you ship it and the service used), we typically ship it back the next business day. Some services may require a 2-day handling time, depending on the complexity.
For detailed shipping times to and from your location, check out our shipping speed map.
What is the warranty?
We offer a 90-day warranty on programming only. This covers the accuracy of the programming performed, but does not extend to the module hardware itself.
