Volkswagen Immobilizer Delete (IMMO OFF) Programming Services
Velectronix offers professional mail-in Volkswagen immobilizer delete (IMMO OFF) programming for supported VW engine control modules (ECUs). An immobilizer delete changes supported ECU software to remove the engine-start authorization requirement, which can be useful for certain immobilizer faults or compatible replacement ECU installations.
We work with selected Volkswagen gasoline and TDI diesel ECU families, including Bosch ME7, M3.8, M5.9, MED9, MED17, ME17, EDC15, EDC16, EDC17 and Continental SIMOS applications. Not every ECU within these families is supported; choose the matching service by ECU part number and hardware type.

Volkswagen Starts Then Stalls: Common Immobilizer Symptoms
On many older Volkswagen vehicles, an immobilizer authorization problem allows the engine to start briefly and then shut off, often after one or two seconds. This start-then-stall behavior is an important symptom when evaluating whether a supported IMMO OFF service is appropriate.
Engine Starts, Then Immediately Dies
The engine cranks and starts but stops shortly afterward because the ECU does not receive valid immobilizer authorization.
Immobilizer Warning or Fault Codes
A flashing immobilizer indicator, key authorization fault, or immobilizer-related ECU fault code may accompany the problem.
Replacement ECU Not Matched
A replacement engine computer may not be paired with the vehicle's existing immobilizer system, even when the ECU hardware is compatible.
Key or Cluster Authorization Problems
On certain older systems, faults involving the key, instrument cluster, or immobilizer components can prevent successful engine authorization.
Supported Volkswagen ECU Immobilizer Delete Types
Our listings cover multiple Volkswagen ECU generations. Check the Bosch, Continental, Siemens, and Volkswagen part numbers on the ECU label rather than ordering by vehicle year alone.
Older VW Gasoline ECUs
Selected Bosch M3.8, M5.9, ME7.x and related Volkswagen applications. Commonly associated with older Golf, Jetta, Beetle, Cabrio and other supported models.
VW TDI Diesel ECUs
Selected Bosch EDC15, EDC16 and EDC17 engine computers. Availability varies by ECU generation, part number, and software.
VW MED9 / MED17 / ME17
Immobilizer-off programming for supported Bosch direct-injection and other gasoline ECU applications. Compatibility must be verified for the exact unit.
Volkswagen Continental SIMOS
Selected SIMOS engine computers with an available immobilizer delete solution. Not all SIMOS generations or software versions are supported.
Volkswagen IMMO OFF vs. ECU Cloning
Immobilizer Delete (IMMO OFF)
Changes supported ECU software so engine authorization no longer depends on the original immobilizer pairing. For most IMMO OFF orders, you send the ECU to be programmed; a second ECU is not normally required.
ECU Cloning
Transfers required data from your original ECU into a compatible customer-supplied donor, typically preserving the vehicle's existing immobilizer configuration. Cloning generally requires both the original and donor ECUs.
If the original ECU is readable and the goal is to replace a failed engine computer, cloning may be preferable. If the ECU itself is functional but a supported immobilizer configuration is preventing engine authorization, IMMO OFF may be an option.
How Our Mail-In VW Immobilizer Delete Service Works
Identify Your ECU
Find the Volkswagen and manufacturer part numbers on your ECU label, then select the matching IMMO OFF product above. Confirm symptoms and compatibility before ordering.
Ship Your Engine Computer
Send the ECU specified in the listing along with your order details. For a standard immobilizer delete, a donor ECU is not normally needed.
Programming and Return
We perform the supported bench programming and return your ECU. Typical handling is 1–2 business days after receipt, excluding shipping transit time.
Frequently Asked Questions About Volkswagen IMMO OFF
Will IMMO OFF fix my Volkswagen if it starts and immediately stalls?
Possibly, if the ECU is supported and the engine stops because immobilizer authorization is being denied. Other faults can also cause a start-and-stall condition, so vehicle diagnosis is important.
Will immobilizer delete fix a VW that does not crank?
Generally no. IMMO OFF is not a repair for starter, relay, ignition-switch, power-supply, or other no-crank problems. The vehicle must still be able to crank and the ECU must function properly.
Do you need my keys or instrument cluster for IMMO OFF?
For most supported ECU immobilizer delete services, we only require the ECU being programmed. Check the specific listing for exceptions.
Do I need to buy a replacement ECU?
Not usually. If your existing ECU is working and qualifies for IMMO OFF, we can generally program that ECU. A physically failed ECU may require a compatible replacement and a different service.
Is Volkswagen IMMO OFF the same as ECU cloning?
No. IMMO OFF changes immobilizer authorization behavior in supported ECU software. Cloning transfers vehicle-specific data into a compatible replacement ECU and normally retains immobilizer operation.
Does every Bosch MED17, EDC17, or SIMOS ECU support IMMO OFF?
No. Support depends on the exact hardware, software, and part number. Use the individual service listing to confirm compatibility.
Can you perform IMMO OFF if my ECU does not communicate?
Standard immobilizer delete is a programming service, not a hardware repair. A dead or non-communicating ECU may require separate data recovery or replacement, where supported.
How long does Volkswagen immobilizer delete programming take?
Most supported mail-in programming services are completed within 1–2 business days after the ECU arrives. Return shipping transit is additional.

Always verify the ECU part number and the underlying vehicle fault before ordering. Immobilizer delete is available only for supported applications and does not correct unrelated electrical or mechanical problems.
