MINI Cooper DME / ECU Cloning & Programming Services
Velectronix provides professional mail-in MINI Cooper DME and ECU cloning services for supported engine control modules. We transfer vehicle-specific data from your original engine computer into a compatible replacement module that you supply.
Our services cover selected MINI engine computers, including EMS2, EMS5150, and Bosch MEVD17 variants. Supported applications depend on the ECU identification, hardware, software, and condition of the original module. Review the individual service listing before purchasing a donor ECU.

Common MINI Cooper DME / ECU Problems
A failed MINI engine computer may need replacement when internal electronics or stored data are damaged. Cloning can be an option when the required original data remains recoverable.
- Engine computer failure requiring a replacement DME or ECU
- Intermittent ECU communication or a non-communicating module
- Water damage or electrical damage to the original engine computer
- A used donor ECU containing another vehicle's immobilizer information
- Replacement ECU requiring the original vehicle-specific data, VIN, or coding
Supported MINI Cooper DME / ECU Families
MINI vehicles use several generations of engine management systems. The ECU families below describe selected services, not blanket compatibility with every MINI model or model year.
Siemens EMS2
Selected earlier MINI engine computers, including applications in first-generation MINI Cooper and Cooper S vehicles. Cloning and donor requirements depend on the exact EMS2 unit.
Common applications: Selected R50, R52, and R53 vehicles. Confirm the ECU label and individual listing.
Siemens / Continental EMS5150
Selected MINI engine-management applications. We offer cloning for supported EMS5150 modules when the original data and a compatible replacement are available.
Compatibility: Confirm the original ECU part number, hardware version, and donor requirements before ordering.
Bosch MEVD17
Selected later MINI gasoline engine computers, including supported MEVD17 variants. Hardware and software differences can affect cloning compatibility.
Common applications: Selected later-generation MINI models. Check the exact ECU family rather than relying on the vehicle model alone.
Additional MINI ECU Types
Other MINI engine computers may be supported depending on their hardware and data accessibility. If yours is not shown among the service buttons, contact us with a clear photo of the original ECU label.
MINI ECU Cloning and No-Communication Cases
What if the original MINI ECU does not communicate?
Standard cloning generally requires the original ECU to communicate or otherwise provide readable data. In certain damaged modules, additional bench-level recovery may be possible, but it is not guaranteed.
If your original ECU is completely non-communicating, contact us before ordering. Recovery availability depends on the specific ECU type and extent of damage.
How MINI Cooper DME Cloning Works
Identify your ECU. Locate the MINI/BMW and manufacturer part numbers on the original engine computer.
Find a compatible donor. Obtain a replacement ECU that meets the requirements of the individual service listing.
Ship both ECUs. Send your original engine computer and customer-supplied replacement to Velectronix.
Data transfer. We read the required vehicle-specific information and program it into the compatible donor.
Return shipping. Your modules are shipped back after the service is completed.
Standard processing is typically 1–2 business days after we receive the required modules, excluding shipping time. Complex recovery cases may take longer.
MINI DME Cloning vs. EWS Delete / Immobilizer Off
MINI ECU Cloning
Transfers required vehicle-specific data from the original engine computer into a compatible replacement. The goal is to retain the existing immobilizer authorization and configuration where supported.
MINI EWS Delete / Immobilizer Off
Modifies supported ECU software to disable immobilizer authorization. This is a separate service from cloning and is not available for every MINI ECU. Some applications require additional vehicle-side steps.
Choose cloning when replacing a failed ECU and the original data can be transferred. For immobilizer-related programming, review the separate MINI EWS Delete / Immobilizer Off service listings.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need to send both MINI engine computers?
Yes. Standard ECU cloning requires your original module and a compatible replacement that you provide. Velectronix does not supply donor ECUs.
Does my replacement MINI ECU need the same part number?
Many services require an exact part-number match. Check the individual listing before purchasing a donor; a similar-looking ECU is not necessarily compatible.
Can you clone a MINI ECU that does not communicate?
Some non-communicating modules may have recoverable data, but not all. Contact us with the ECU identification and failure details before ordering.
Will the replacement MINI DME need programming after cloning?
A successfully cloned, compatible ECU is generally intended to retain the original immobilizer information without additional immobilizer programming. Requirements vary by ECU and vehicle.
Can I use a used MINI engine computer?
Yes, when the used ECU is a compatible donor for the selected service. Verify its part number and hardware requirements first.
How long does MINI ECU cloning take?
Most standard services are completed within 1–2 business days after both modules arrive, excluding shipping time.
