Mercedes-Benz SAM Module Cloning & Programming Services
Velectronix provides professional mail-in Mercedes-Benz SAM module cloning and programming services for supported front and rear SAM modules. SAM stands for Signal Acquisition Module (Signalerfassungs- und Ansteuermodul). These modules control lighting, wipers, turn signals, and other electrical functions through the fuse boxes.
When a Mercedes-Benz SAM fails, a used replacement may not work correctly until the original vehicle's coding and configuration are transferred. Our bench cloning service copies the necessary data from your original SAM onto a compatible donor module that you supply, allowing the replacement to retain the original vehicle-specific configuration.
Common Mercedes-Benz SAM Module Problems
SAM modules can develop faults from water intrusion, corrosion, or internal component damage. Symptoms vary by chassis and whether the front or rear SAM is affected.
- Water-damaged or corroded SAM / fuse box modules, especially rear units in the trunk or cargo area.
- Loss of communication with the SAM module.
- Exterior or interior lighting faults, including intermittent or non-working lights.
- Wiper, turn signal, or other electrical functions not operating correctly.
- Intermittent electrical faults or SAM control unit diagnostic trouble codes.
- Used replacement SAM installed but the vehicle develops new faults or does not start properly.
These symptoms can also be caused by wiring, power supply, bulbs, relays, or other vehicle faults. Module cloning does not diagnose or repair unrelated electrical problems.
Supported Mercedes-Benz SAM Modules & Chassis
We offer cloning services for selected Mercedes-Benz front and rear SAM modules. Supported applications include:
- W164 / X164 / W251: ML-Class, GL-Class, and R-Class front and rear SAM modules.
- W203 / W209: C-Class and CLK-Class HELLA SAM / fuse box modules.
- W204 / W212: C-Class and E-Class front and rear SAM modules.
- W211 / W219: E-Class and CLS Temic SAM modules.
- W220 / W215 / R230: S-Class, CL-Class, and SL-Class SAM modules.
- W221 / C216 and later: Selected front and rear SAM applications.
- Sprinter (W906): Temic SAM fuse box modules.
Not every SAM part number is supported. Compatibility depends on matching part numbers between the original and donor modules, hardware version, and whether the original data can still be read. Review the individual service listing or contact us with photos of both module labels before shipping.
How Mercedes SAM Cloning Works
A used Mercedes-Benz SAM contains coding and configuration from the vehicle it came from. Simply installing it can result in lighting faults, communication issues, or other problems. Cloning transfers the original vehicle's data so the replacement retains the appropriate vehicle-specific configuration.
- You supply both the original SAM and a compatible donor module with a matching part number.
- We read the original module's coding, configuration, and stored data when recoverable.
- The necessary data is transferred to the donor module.
- Once the data transfer is completed, the replacement module is returned for installation in your vehicle.
- Turnaround is typically 1–2 business days after we receive the modules.
If the original SAM is completely dead or unreadable, a full clone may not be possible. Contact us with the part numbers and symptoms before shipping so we can advise. We do not supply donor modules; you source a matching used unit.
Frequently Asked Questions
- Do I need to send the original module? Yes. We need the original SAM to recover and transfer the vehicle-specific data. You also supply a compatible donor.
- What if my original SAM is dead? Some non-communicating modules may still have recoverable data. Contact us with photos of the labels and a description of the symptoms so we can assess the available options.
- Will the cloned module be plug-and-play? In most supported cases, the goal is to transfer the original vehicle-specific data so additional dealer coding is not required. Results depend on the specific module, donor compatibility, and vehicle condition.
- Do you supply the donor SAM? No. You provide a compatible used donor with a matching part number. We can help verify compatibility if you send photos of both module labels.
